----------- NSAIDs:
INDOCIN- INDOMETHACIN Common Side Effects: Abdominal pain, constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, ringing in the ears, sleepiness or excessive drowsiness, stomach pain, stomach upset, vertigo, vomiting.
Less Common or Rare Side Effects: Anemia, anxiety, asthma, behavior disturbances, bloating, blurred vision, breast changes, changes in heart rate, chest pain, coma, congestive heart failure, convulsions, decrease in white blood cells, fever, fluid in lungs, fluid retention, flushing, gas, hair loss, hepatitis, high or low blood pressure, hives, itching, increase in blood sugar, insomnia, kidney failure, labored breathing, light-headedness, loss of appetite, mental confusion, muscle weakness, nosebleed, peptic ulcer, problems in hearing, rash, rectal bleeding, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (skin peeling), stomach or intestinal bleeding, sweating, twitching, unusual redness of skin, vaginal bleeding, weight gain, worsening of epilepsy, yellow eyes and skin.
----------- CORTICOSTEROIDS:
PREDNISONE - DELTASONE Common Side Effects: euphoria, insomnia, mood changes, personality changes, psychotic behavior, or severe depression. It may worsen any existing emotional instability. At a high dosage, may cause fluid retention and high blood pressure. With prolonged treatment, eye problems may develop (e.g., a viral or fungal eye infection, cataracts, or glaucoma). If taken over the long term, the buildup of adrenal hormones in your body may cause a condition called Cushing's syndrome, marked by weight gain, a ``moon-faced'' appearance, thin, fragile skin, muscle weakness, brittle bones, and purplish stripe marks on the skin.
Other Potential Side Effects: Bone fractures, bruising, bulging eyes, congestive heart failure, convulsions, distended abdomen, face redness, glaucoma, headache, hives and other allergic-type reactions, increased pressure inside eyes or skull, inflamed esophagus or pancreas, irregular menstrual periods, muscle weakness or disease, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer, poor healing of wounds, stunted growth (in children), sweating, thin, fragile skin, vertigo.
----------- DISEASE MODIFYING ANTIRHEUMATIC DRUGS (DMARDs):
METHOTREXATE - RHEUMATREX Common Side Effects: Abdominal pain and upset, chills and fever, decreased resistance to infection, dizziness, fatigue, general feeling of illness, mouth ulcers, nausea.
Less Common Side Effects: Abortion, acne, anemia, birth defects, black or tarry stool, blurred vision, boils, bruises, changes in skin coloration, convulsions, diarrhea, drowsiness, fatigue, hair loss, headaches, hives, inability to speak, infection of hair follicles, infertility, inflammation of the gums or mouth, intestinal inflammation, kidney failure, loss of appetite, lung disease, menstrual problems, partial or complete paralysis, rash or itching, red patches on skin, sensitivity to light, sore throat, stomach and intestinal ulcers and bleeding, stomach pain, vaginal discharge, vomiting, vomiting blood.
Rare Side Effects: Diabetes, impotence, infection, joint pain, loss of sexual desire, muscular pain, osteoporosis, ringing in the ears, severe allergic reaction, shortness of breath, sleepiness, sudden death, sweating.
SULFASALAZINE - AZULFIDINE Common Side Effects: Headache, lack or loss of appetite, nausea, stomach distress, vomiting.
Less Common Side Effects: Anemia, bluish discoloration of the skin, fever, hives, itching, skin rash.
Rare Side Effects: Abdominal pain, blood disorders, blood in the urine, bloody diarrhea, convulsions, diarrhea, drowsiness, hallucinations, hearing loss, hepatitis, inability to fall or stay asleep, inflammation of the mouth, intestinal inflammation, itchy skin eruptions, joint pain, kidney disorders, lack of muscle coordination, loss of hair, mental depression, red, raised rash, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to light, severe allergic reaction, skin discoloration, skin disorders, spinal cord defects, swelling around the eye, urine discoloration, vertigo.
----------- NSAID GASTROPATHY PROPHYLAXIS
CYTOTEC - MISOPROSTOL Common Side Effects: abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and/or nausea.
Other Side Effects: Constipation, gas, indigestion, headache, heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual disorder, menstrual pain or cramps, paleness, spotting (light bleeding between menstrual periods), stomach or intestinal bleeding, vomiting.
----------- ANTIBIOTICS
MINOCYCLINE Side Effects May Include: Aching, inflamed joints, anal or genital sores with fungus infection, anaphylaxis (life-threatening allergic reaction), anemia, appetite loss, blurry vision, bulging of soft spots in infants' heads, decreased hearing, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, discoloration of children's teeth, fever, fluid retention, headache, hepatitis, hives, inflammation of the penis, inflammation of the intestines, inflammation of the tongue, joint pain, kidney or liver failure, nausea, rash, sensitivity to light, skin coloration, skin eruptions, skin inflammation and peeling, throat irritation, thyroid gland problems, vomiting.
DOXYCYCLINE - VIBRAMYCIN Side Effects May Include: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, glossitis, dysphagia, enterocolitis, inflammatory lesions (with monilial overgrowth) in the anogenital region, esophagitis, esophageal ulcerations, maculopapular and erythematous rashes, Exfoliative dermatitis, Photosensitivity, rise in BUN, urticaria, angioneurotic edema, anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid purpura, serum sickness, pericarditis, exacerbation of systemic lupus erythematosus, Hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia, bulging fontanels in infants and intracranial hypertension in adults.
